An agriculture service center for St. Mary’s County will soon become a reality. After many years of searching for a location in and around Leonardtown, the District now owns a 12,000 square foot building. The new building is behind the salt dome in Leonardtown at the Guy Commercial Center. The Ag Service Center will be the new location for the District, Maryland Department of Agriculture Resource Conservation, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, and the Farm Service Agency. The Ag Service Center will also provide an office and storage area for the St. Mary’s County Farm Bureau and the Southern Maryland Resource Conservation and Development Office from Waldorf. A future (tentatively one to two years) relocation of the Extension Service and possibly the County’s Agriculture Office will complete the building and provide a “One Stop Shop” for the County’s agriculture community.
Construction is under way and because the building shell is done, only interior construction is necessary and is anticipated to take three (3) to four (4) months to complete. If all goes according to schedule, the Ag Service Center will open its doors early this fall.
Below are pictures of the interior construction. Please keep checking back as we will post new pictures on a weekly basis.
